Pretentious Bastards...

Family Guy's return...
"It's a needed reminder that humorless prudes do not have a monopoly on the airwaves yet, and that there's enough of us out there to put up a fight. As Peter would say, that's freakin' sweet. "

Now, I appreciate what this journalist is attempting to do. He's saying, "Hey, there's still hope in the cultural sphere for the conceptual left to break through and defeat the right, allowing material power to follow." He's trying to let us know that all is not lost against this fearful behemouth of the right... and perhaps there's a need of that amoung the older generations, primarily the Baby Boomers. Yet, the self-smugness with which he says it makes one cringe.

On the theme song he notes, "Hearing it now, the song brings a dose of topicality to a typically apolitical show; remembering that it was written years ago gives it a frisson of prescience. "

As if years ago, it was irrelevant... why might this be? "Indeed, I must confess that I never caught the show during its initial airing, dismissing it at the time as a crude knock-off of its Fox neighbor, "The Simpsons."

OHHHHHH, but now that you've seen it, the show is suddenly valid. Suddenly, it has meaning, three years ago for the present. In the past, completely irrelevant. In the discovered present, it gives "topicality to a typically apolitical show." Thanks buddy, when I was watching it three years ago I obviously was off my rocker thinking it to be relevant. Apparently now, it is, thanks to your splendid insight.

Once again, I understand the crowd that he's trying to reach, but perhaps I would be more pleased if his language betrayed at least an understanding that there's an active cauldron of creative society ready to burst forth upon the world. Of course its a reminder, its the smell of the whole bloody brew a'boiling, but man, reminders are nothing to one with a little faith.

Help me build a world

I'm opening this wiki page up as an experiment in world creation. As a wiki page anyone can edit it and modify in any way they deem necessary. Do partake, and make my dreams come true.

wikispaces theautonomous home: "Here, commentary on the world in which each of us live, is to be effected not with simple debate, but with intellectual reformation of societal constructions in a utopian vein. My simple mission for this page, and yours if you choose to accept it, is to build a world. Said world is like to include things such as economic, political, artistic, religious, cultural, educational and every other institutional possibility you might imagine (perhaps even historical). The world is not limited to a specific nation, nor is it limited to concepts such as nation or state. You're free to construct as you wish, and deconstruct as you might. While this world might not be entirely realistic as the paths necessary for its development are currently closed, who knows what possibilities can be opened simply through the formulation of a new ideology, a new perspective on the world and an ideal state that might be situated within it."

Benedict XVI

Die Germans are coming... to the Vatican. This essay explores the theology of the new Pope. A little bit more of the Augustine in him than the Thomas, yet possibly a little more conservative in some areas than our old friend John Paul II. Read it.

On Feminism

What has liberating the female into the political public discourse produced? Why, bitch fights on a national level of course. Yes, after doing the right thing and allowing women to go to college, vote, and even hold public office, the most im/[o]pressing legacy they have managed to create is a completely irressolvable problem which has assumed center stage of our national public debate. Abortion - If women couldn't vote, we still wouldn't have any laws one way or another. Sadly, they can. We now have two groups of people with two entirely different assumptions, yelling at each other over which assumption is more correct. What's worse, is they try to get other people involved... apparently they seem to think this is a war of ideas that will evantually be won by one side with a confirmation of that victory in national law. Apparently neither side seems to realize that even a national law won't resolve their differing assumptions. Yet, like two livid bitches, they're screaming at each other and the men between them to do something about it. Maybe if they screamed louder we might fight progress... say bombing churches or abortion clinics, oh wait, that's already happened. What then, is the answer...? How about we attempt to resolve the disparity between assumptions through debate... say a compromise of assumptions. The fatal assumption this argument hinges on is the fetal development of life, in lieu of both its potential to be a human life and its existence as a life. I think the best response to the potential argument is masturbation. Male masturbation kills billions of potential babies every day. Hell, coitus itself leads to the unfortunate demise of many sacred sperm. And do we need to mention the death of hundreds of eggs throughout the life of a female. Although, I suppose, that the zygote is one step closer to a realized human being, it's still quite far from that fate. I think then, that the point of actual human life should be established. The two best points for this that I have heard is existence of nervous system (about 3 weeks) and the existence of brain waves (6 weeks). I don't care to argue the merits of either, or any for that matter. Just to point out that a resolution is possible if both sides are willing to COMPROMISE their own position. Until then, I will continue to hold to the theory that women are unfit to be involved in politics and/or vote. This whole debate is stupid. Our country really shouldn't be wasting so much damn energy on it. Oh, and as an outsider to the whole debate... I feel the best way to approach members of either side is through radically polarized terms. My favourite are Baby-Killers and Freedom-Haters. Those really activate our most prized cultural sensitivities. Anyways, Peace out... and down with feminism.

Where'd that checkbook go... oh, Iraq.

Wired News: Windmills in the Sky

Here we have a good old fashion American entrepreneur teaming up with an Australian (it's cool, they like us) scientist to bring us a cheap form of energy complete with design plans birthed after 25 years of labor. Yet, they don't have $3 million dollars to build the prototype. Now, a single cruise missile costs Congress $1.1 million dollars or so. We could invest money to acheive energy independence... or we could just build three more cruise missiles with which we can threaten our oil suppliers. Ok. What do you think I should think? Well you're wrong. I think we should let the poor start-ups flounder in their own misery. Energy independence is a silly goal to work towards when we nearly have the Middle East in our grasp. Once there we can further subject those Islamic dogs by employing them as slaves to the American oil companies for which our government acts as a proxy. After decades of servitude, they might revolt, but by then the oil wells will be empty and we'll be a few billion barrels richer.... Or we could just budget more money into legitimate non-oil based energy sources to provide an impetus for the market to move in that direction.
